Anti-Tarnish Jewellery Care: How to Keep Your Pieces Shining for Years

Anti-tarnish jewellery is built to last — but the right care routine makes the difference between pieces that shine for months and those that shine for years.

At Tesoro Savia, every piece is made with SS 304 stainless steel and 18K gold plating — two of the most tarnish-resistant materials available at accessible price points. But even the best materials benefit from a little love.

What Causes Tarnish?

Tarnish happens when metal reacts with moisture, oxygen, and chemicals like perfume, sweat, and chlorine. Even anti-tarnish metals can be affected over time if exposed to harsh conditions repeatedly.

The Golden Rules of Anti-Tarnish Care

Rule 1 — Last on, first off. Put your jewellery on after applying perfume, lotion, and hair products. Remove it before you shower, swim, or exercise. Chemicals and chlorine are the number one enemy of plated metals.

Rule 2 — Sweat is your jewellery's enemy. After a workout, wipe your pieces with a soft, dry cloth before storing. Perspiration is acidic and can dull the finish over time.

Rule 3 — Store separately. Metal pieces scratching against each other causes micro-damage that dulls the finish. Store each piece in its own compartment, zip-lock pouch, or the box it came in.

Rule 4 — Clean gently. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe pieces after wearing. For deeper cleaning, use mild soap and lukewarm water — never abrasive cleaners, toothpaste, or silver polish on gold-plated jewellery.

Rule 5 — Avoid ultrasonic cleaners. These can strip the plating from gold-finished pieces. Stick to gentle hand-cleaning.

Can Anti-Tarnish Jewellery Get Wet?

Our SS 304 stainless steel base is water-resistant — brief contact with water won't damage it. However, prolonged immersion (swimming pools, the ocean, long showers) is not recommended for gold-plated finishes. Think of it as water-resistant, not waterproof.

The Tesoro Savia Difference

Our anti-tarnish pieces are designed to be worn daily with minimal fuss. The SS 304 steel core means the base metal itself won't rust or corrode. The 18K gold plating adds the luxury finish you love — and with the care tips above, it'll stay beautiful far longer than standard fashion jewellery.
